Somatic Practices to Reconnect With Yourself

A gentle return to yourself.

Sometimes, the most meaningful thing we can do is pause long enough to feel ourselves again.

When life feels overwhelming, our bodies may need a little help finding their way back to a sense of safety, steadiness, and connection. Somatic practices invite us to slow down, notice what is happening within, and offer ourselves gentle reassurance.

Here are a few practices to try when you need a moment of grounding.

♡ Butterfly Taps
Cross your arms over your chest, resting your hands on your upper arms or shoulders. Slowly alternate gentle taps from one side to the other. Let your breath move naturally as you notice the rhythm. Continue for 30–60 seconds, allowing yourself to settle without needing to change anything.

♡ The Physiological Sigh
Take a gentle inhale through your nose, followed by a second, smaller top up inhale before slowly exhaling through your mouth. Repeat a few times, without forcing your breath. This can help your body shift out of a heightened stress response.

♡ The Self-Hug
Wrap your arms around yourself, placing your hands wherever feels comforting. Give a gentle squeeze. Feel the warmth of your hands, the support of your arms, and the sensation of being held. Stay for a few breaths, reminding yourself that you can offer yourself presence, acceptance and care, too.

A small reminder: Healing doesn’t always begin with doing more. Sometimes it begins with listening more gently to the body that has carried us through so much.

Choose the practices that feel most supportive today. Keep the movements and breathing comfortable, and stop or return to your natural breath if anything feels unpleasant or overwhelming.

May you find a little more room to breathe, a little more softness within, and a way back to yourself.

With care,
